“The Foundation for New American Musicals is one of the most exciting opportunities anywhere for young writers to develop.”

— Grant Gustin (The Flash)

Throughout the history of this quintessentially American art form, musicals have not merely entertained, but have often given voice to serious themes, challenged assumptions and changed minds.

FNAM is dedicated to educating, mentoring and showcasing emerging creators of original musicals for stage, screen and new platforms.

The Foundation for New American Musicals supports the creation of new content and provides a voice for the next generation of creators. Embracing four powerful disciplines – story, song, dance and visuals – musicals have uniquely and memorably inspired deeper empathy and understanding across cultures, ethnicities and generations.

Today, musical theatre has earned a top spot in the cultural conversation. However, while there are many opportunities for performers and technical teams to learn and grow, there are very few programs that introduce musical theatre show writing to high school through college age students and develop promising story tellers, composers and lyricists.

The keystone of all FNAM programs is to provide opportunities for talented newcomers to create and showcase their art.

Make a Difference

The Foundation for New American Musical’s education programs, mentorships and showcases would not be possible without support from individuals, foundations and corporations. Thank you for playing a crucial role in the Foundation’s commitment to nurturing, connecting and presenting the work of new musical theatre creators.

Musicals translate the human experience in a way that can open minds and actually change history. Students who create musicals, particularly low-income and English Language Learners, are shown to benefit academically and socially.
